Plan for a day - Chidiyatapu

Chidiya Tapu Beach is one of the best picnic spots in Andaman District of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is about 2 km south of Chidiya Tapu. The beach offers some of the best snorkelling in the area. It is a heaven for collectors of sea shells because different varieties of colourful shells lie scattered all around. An ideal place for bird watchers, the place charms one with its scenic backdrop.

Chidiya Tapu in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is 25 kms away from the capital, Port Blair. It is located in the southern most tip of South Andaman. The main attraction of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Chidiya Tapu is its rich collection of birds. The sky of Chidiya Tapu is bestowed with 46 varieties of birds – drongos, hanging parrot, scarlet minivet,emerald dove, long-tailed and red-breasted parakeets, white-bellied sea eagles and grey-fronted and imperial green pigeons to name a few. Accordingly, Chidiya Tapu is also known as the Bird Island of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Chidiya Tapu is world wide famous for its thick, green vegetations, enchanting beaches, collections of corals, colorful butterflies and most importantly, the view of the sun setting in the wine red horizon. The place also offers excellent sites for snorkeling.

  • Chidiya Tapu Biological Park
  • the Sylvan Sands and
  • Chidiya Tapu Beach

Incidentally, Chidiya Tapu Beach offers varieties of sea shells. So the locals of Chidiya Tapu is primarily engaged in the industry of Shell crafts. Some of the products of Chidiya Tapu shell crafts are table lamps, ashtrays, bangles, decorative boxes or show pieces.

Chidiya Tapu is accessible from Port Blair through roadways. As for accommodation, there is a forest guest house at Chidiya Tapu situated on a hillock which provides excellent overview of the entire village.

 A Day @ Chidiyatapu:
  • Morning start from the quest house to chidiyatapu ( buses are available from Aberdeen bazaar ,port blair ,main bus terminus (both private and govt buses are available daily). It takes around one hour to reach chidiyatapu. If you take bus, then you need to walk for around 2 km from chidiyatapu bus stand to the chidiyatapu beach to reach the beach.
  • It is always best to get your own transport to chidiyatapu( cabs or bike) so that you can stop on the way in places like Burma nala and other places to have the dense forest view.
  • Plan for the food before going to chidiyatapu because there are no shops at the beach (we can get snacks and cool drinks) in the shops near by chidiyatapu bus stand.
  • There is birds zoo, where we can see a variety of birds and the awesome forest view and can have amazing near by islands view.
  • Reach the beach have a nice bath, enjoy the beautiful scenic view( the beaches are very neat and clean)
  •  Evening watch the pleasant sunset.
  • Return to port blair and in the evening plan for some places like marina park, Gandhi park.

   Note: Buses are available daily from Port Blair to Chidiya Tapu village.
